The Child Care Information Center (CCIC) is a specialized information clearinghouse and mail-order lending library that serves anyone in Wisconsin working in the field of early care and education and afterschool care.  Nearly all CCIC services are free of charge.  It is funded by the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families (DCF) Division of Early Care and Education, and it operates inside DPI’s Resources for Libraries and Lifelong Learning in Madison.  It is staffed by one DPI employee and two DCF employees.

CCIC works closely with programs in DCF that regulate child care, improve its quality, help parents find high quality care for their children, and give low-income parents a subsidy to afford child care.  CCIC also works closely with DPI’s Office of Early Learning to promote Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards, a developmental framework that addresses all domains of learning from birth to first grade.

CCIC staff helps those interested in early care and education understand how to find and use the vast stores of information available on CCIC’s own website ‒ www.ccic.wi.gov – and related websites such as Child Care Search, YoungStar (Wisconsin’s child care quality rating and improvement system), the Child Care Subsidy Program, Licensed Child Care,  The Registry, Wisconsin Early Childhood Collaborating Partners, and DPI’s Early Childhood web pages.

CCIC’s specialized lending library consists of 7,000 books and 650 DVDs on all aspects of child development, early care and education, and afterschool programming.  Its holdings are in WISCAT and are available via interlibrary loan, a service borrowers greatly appreciate.  Early care and education providers and trainers may choose to have materials shipped directly to them if they prefer, and then pay the cost of mailing loan items back to CCIC.

CCIC welcomes inquiries from public, school, academic, and other libraries!  Please email ccic@dpi.wi.gov or phone 1-800-362-7353.
